Crash while killed in orc ambash

In far east as I exhausted lives(about 6) trying to escape orc corrupter, on being killed on the last life game crashed. v18b, ubuntu linux without music. On the positive side death was not saved due to crash. I consider that as a sign from roguelike gods that I may continue to play with all the lives intact
On the side note -Why not resurrect not on the current, but on previous level? Otherwise, in a bind, multiple lives are becoming pointless.
