Would like some quest ideas for unlocking geomancers.
Right now I'm thinking something in the east would be good. Either a random encounter or maybe an earth dungeon (something discovered like the caves but along a mountain side).
Some tie ins would be good. Asthmatic_thematic mentioned maybe ancient sources of elemental power in the east, which sounds like an interesting idea.
Another thought was to have the quest be a teaser for the dwarves in the east. Maybe a dwarven geo-mancer the player rescues from an orc ambush (would be a random encounter rather then a whole dungeon).
Anyway I'm not a huge Tolkien lore buff so any ideas on how to incorporate this unlock I'd love to hear.

Aule is the Vala of earth and crafts. He created the dwarrow in secret, and gave them a weak form of life, as they could only function when his thoughts were on them. Iluvatar found out, and asked him why he exceeded his authority. "Assuming that they should be destroyed, [Aule] made to smite the seven Fathers of the Dwarves with a great hammer, weeping as he did so," but Iluvatar stayed his hand. Maybe something relating to this great hammer? This could be a huge arc as well--eg someone found the hammer, and is going to reinitiate its fall, and you have to stop them, but I've already proposed enough arcs for one day!
For simpler unlocks of earth power, maybe a random encounter--some forge somewhere, near the mountains, because Aule is a smith? Maybe Wayland's Smithy, and you have to just drop a Silver Coin on it or something? Or bring him a dwarven lamp or somesuch?

This should come from dwarves, I think. If I knew what I was doing, I would have already coded the idea I gave in http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=3 ... 2&start=15 (dwarf city in the Far East), and I'd recommend having the player encounter a dwarven geomancer there once you save the dwarves. That would unlock geomancers.

Yeah, I like that idea Sus. The problem is that the dwarves in the east idea isn't fleshed out yet.
I suppose the class could have a generic unlock for now and then be tied in with dwarves in the east later on.
Then again... 15 (mithril!!) rings of constitution sounds pretty good too
