RNG strikes again...

#1 Post by Shoob »

lol, the first non-swordmaster character I have played for a while (a rohanknight monk to be exact)... has just gotten a reward from the princess (lvl 32 of mirkwood), I chose a small sword because of the off chance it had to be what I got...

yeah, I got sting...

technically I could switch it up and go up the weaponmastery isle but that would give me a shortage of skill points... (well, I wouldnt be able to invest in anything I wanted to get)

so I think I will keep it in my home... I like it too much to mathom it.

Commiserations :(

Go on, Mathom it. Show your contempt for the slings and arrows of outrageous random number generation.

I'd be pulling my hair out. I've never found Sting with any character - I've even found the Ring of Precognition twice, but never Sting.

I think I found it once with a Monk, the other time with a Jedi from a variant. Found Ringil with that character too, come to think of it.
And it was such a good idea...

I havent ever found the ring of precognition

I have found ringil 6 or 7 times. This was the first time I have gotten it.

I did end up killing the character.

so now I am trying something else... and itemless character... my guess would be a vampire human monk would be best (and hope to get a corruption fountain to get major immunities and resists covered. and FF for at least mindcraft.

Theme lygrog monk, if you want to do it easily.

been there, done that :)

my options:

NOTE: all are hoping to find corruption and augmentation fountain (I am not allowing me to use stat potions.)

thunderlord mindcrafter (possibly worship melkor, possibly someone else)
pros (resists, flight, guarenteed mindcraft, high stats to begin with, recall)
cons (lvling, no light (till lvl 36))

vampire monk (worship melkor)
pros (fighting, dodging, free action, innate light)
cons (flight, recalling, and FF has to be nice (for mindcraft))

I picked human above because somehow I got fear resistance as a lvl 1 monk... (may have been a barbarian thing though)

what say you?

FWIW, Paladins get barehand and mindcraft to start with. :) They are limited to worshipping Tulkas though, but Tulkas isn't so bad; he does give you Stone Prison, and Divine Accuracy *massively* augments your attack power.

Lord Dimwit did it with a Vampire Beorning Necromancer:

My first thought was a Barehand-using possessing Loremaster in a GWoP body or even Ancalagon's body. I'm not sure about which resists they have (a few of the "high" resists if I recall), but they grant enough HP that you probably won't care too much about missing resists. The only really dangerous hole might be FA, but that's based on high Barehand skill... right?

It would be ... interesting to get the point of being able to snag a GWoP/Ancalagon though.

I guess it depends whether you define itemless as including corpses or not.

Also, now that I come to think of it, how would the Thunderlord Mindcrafter eat?

(2nd q first) they can eat at inns.

I would define itemless as using any item that can be picked up, or destroyed (via ctrl-k) fountains dont fall into this nor does using a any itemless features of stores (restoration, food, healing, recall, etc) [edit] forgot to say that corpses do count as items for me.

the only problem with those two is that both stone prison and divine accuracy both need items to be cast

Why not a thaumaturgist (spelling?). Would they not feasably be able to survive without items?

Ok i admit missing a senitent is rough.
but i can still trump that.
wanted to change up my warriors a bit so i went for an axemaster instead (ive had some VERY nice axe randarts lately and after a while it gets annoying).
well Bdw 4 i found a dagger on the floor. yep senitent, oh well i can throw it at things.
on to Bdw 8 and i get a short sword from mughashes escort. 5d4. at this point i screem.
Im not going to mention the yellow text that appeared when i tryed the staff of id i found on that broken swor don barrow downs 10.

I'm going to go kill moldox.

Isn't that the point of playing non-swordmaster warriors? Almost all the great weapon artifacts are swords. Just think of how virtuous you are to withstand the temptation. Maybe you can collect Ringil, Vorpy, and the LWotD to impress your friends:

"Sure, those are pretty good weapons. But I prefer my trusty hatchet of slay orc."
