Hmm. My first guess was that maybe you have tome-newgems also installed, but if you removed all other addons that's probably not the case.

ToME now has like 3 different places that it checks for addons, is it possible that you have an old version (either tome-newgems or older tome-nullnewgems) installed in one of the other locations?

xyzzy99, have you tried viewing a list of all talents, courtesy of the "m" key?

It could be that it somehow escaped the hotbar, and therefore wouldn't display. Not strictly likely, by it could happen.

*three* places? I've been putting all my addons in /game/addons, and I presume the /tome/download is another, but whats the third?

This is the last test character I made, previous ones were deleted. It doesn't show up in my character profile yet, I presume there is some schedule for updating the character vault.

It seems like 'crystalline structure' simply omits the crawl and phase, its not even in the text when generating the character

This is a character created with an earlier version, I didn't have a problem with it, and 'crystalline structure' shows the proper text as well.

-edit- I'm not sure its significant, but since I thought of it... when creating crystals under the current version, they don't start with a point in crystalline structure at all, I have to put my lone generic point into it. I think I recall previous versions started with a point in crystalline structure, in addition to a spendable point?

Yeah, there's the Steam addons directory, the game-folder addons directory, and a per-user addon directory -- on the mac it's in ~/Library/Application Support/t-engine/4.0/, on windows I assume it'd be wherever per-user application settings are stored.

I do see evidence that you've got two versions of the addon installed: your linked character shows version 1.1.5 as your nullnewgems addon version, but "tome-nullnewgems_3.teaa" is listed as version 1.1.6 -- so you've got either *_1 or *_2 hanging around somewhere, and it's interfering with *_3.

Could you search your computer for "tome-nullnewgems"?


You should indeed start with one free point in Crystalline Structure, just like any other race does.

searching for 'tome-nullnewgems' found _3 in /game/addons/ , _2, _1, and the original in the quarantine folder I made on desktop.
I deleted all nullnewgems files, downloaded a fresh _3 and put it in /game/addons/, and made a new character - same problem.

Since I failed to find any wayward addons, my next thought was to get Tome to tell me what it was actually loading. I renamed the Te4_log.txt, started Tome, selected Flush Log and safe mode (when in doubt, simplify), created a new crystal (with only _3 in the addon folder), saved, and exited.

The relevant section seems to be:

I'm kinda stuck. I haven't found any wayward addons to interfere, the one addon it appears to load hashes good, and then it just ignores features of the race during character creation... I'm open to suggestions.

That is so strange!

Can you post your log?

(Is it possible you have a copy of "tome-newgems", the pre-Null version, in one of the addon folders?)

That's not good.

Are you loading a saved game? If so that save is bad.

Could you start a new game and post the log for that? I've used http://pastebin.com for tons of stuff, and I've never installed anything.

http://pastebin.com/ - This is a good spot for logs, or any other simple text stuff. It's free, requires no installation, and depending on how large your snippet of log is, the worst you might have to do is enter a captcha.

http://www.sendspace.com/ - This is a decent filehost, doesn't require any installation to upload or download files.

Both of those seem fairly common around the forums, though if others have a preference for different spots, I'll let them speak up. Reading through an entire log on forums can be a chore, and those 2 places should work well for future reference.

That log was from running Tome, creating the test character, and exiting Tome. No save file was loaded, the only thing involving a save file was the one Tome created on exit. So its leaning towards somehow, some way, my Tome installation is boogered up?

I copied my character save directory and addon directory to desktop, deleted the entire Tome and T-engine directories, re-downloaded & installed Tome. Then I moved the tome-nullnewgems_3 addon to the newly created addon directory.

I created a test crystal - and it has phase and crawl! So, at least on the subject of my odd problem with crystals, I'm going to attribute it to my previous Tome setup. It could have been a dodgy file download, some quirk of updating from the earlier RC versions, or what-have-you; but the evidence seems to clear the good name of tome-nullnewgems_3.

Now to set about testing if any of my characters failed to survive the reincarnation.

Dammit. I put the other addons in, to test my existing characters, and made another crystal just to check - and no phase/crawl. I'm gonna sleep on it...

That is so strange.

Maybe it's some kind of interaction with another addon?
