Can you teleport on the level?

Yes, but the level is extremely small and Atamathon is extremely fast. If you get lucky and teleport right next to the exit tile you might survive, but otherwise you *will* die if you don't have insane defenses prepared for the fight.

Plain vorataun bijouterie (rare stuff) and a few gems. He could probably have a few less HP without changing the outcome of the encounter - either you can survive it indefinitely while chipping away under his rust, or you can't survive it past "oh puta..!". Without at least two controlled PDs, since he can close the distance twice-in-a-row and you'll be doing it too many times to be rolling dice, the second outcome feels quite likely :)

Feeling badass for defeating him should be reward enough. Even winners are likely to be destroyed if they're not on top of their game.

Bragging rights. For example, I've beaten Athamathon 3 times on Roguelike and I've never lost to him. ;) Berserker (b27), Necromancer (b33) and Anti-magic Mindslayer (b40).

You also get some plain vorutun jewelry and gems, which is useful if you completed the jeweler's quest.

You can rest for hundreds of turns with movement infusions.

eh, if anything this game has too much warning and leeway. Play some of the other / older roguelikes and insta death come more often, out of nowhere, and with NO warning. IMO I really think undead drinking blood of life should destroy them, because you know if this was nethack or adom it would, but too many people complain these days about things being "unfair"

you also get his eye from killing him, which is really nice. and if you want to kill him just to kill him, just be a summoner and chain summon drake packs.

Well there's an easy way to stop dying from that!
Which is? I can't figure out how to stop it. Gloves of dispersion?

Indeed, and archmage's disperse magic talent as well, and as a sustain, corrupted negation as well. After all THAT, you also have access to the rod of annulment (IIRC, this can disable sustains, but only if one of the three abilities it targets IS the sustain... not reliable, one way or the other...), and I think spellhunt remnants can screw with sustains on the t5 activation.

Any others folks?

Will skeleton brawler with Unstoppable have easy (even if tedious) time with it?

Manaclash, manaburning weapons, and spell feedback can force Atamathon's sustains to shut off.

You'll probably die.

If you had the option of escaping after death I think it would be fine (maybe have the robot go on a rampage and destroy some cities if you do run away?)

I do wish it dropped better loot, though. The buffed eye is rather underwhelming for killing the hardest boss in the game.

I think good warning would be ability to check it's charsheet before activating.
