The world of Hureldir -- a dimly-lit forest world, with small clearings linked by well-worn paths, a la the Heart of the Gloom with greener vegetation -- is guarded by Guda:

Poliwyn was a bit more fun. Poliwyn lived on the small cold sandy world of Khelilar. The frozen sand tunnels did not shift or collapse the way those of Maj'Eyal do, thank goodness.

The fun part was the infestation of cold drakes and wyrms and hatchlings and more cold drakes, that I had to fight off at the same time.

From the Journal of Grushnak, Higher Temporal Warden

... and so it is my Duty to visit as many of these Realms as possible and close down their portals, as they present a Danger to the Very Fabric of Space and Time. It is with a heavy heart, yet Faith and Confidence in my abilities and the Higher Calling of my order ...

[several paragraphs of tiresome prose omitted for the gentle reader's benefit]

Aerorim.

Once this world must have been beautiful. In a way it still is - the grass is green, the trees are majestic, and quiet meadows yet stretch between denser growths of vegetation. All this I can only see by the magickal light of my trusty Glowing Phial, for a deep shadow lies upon the land, and only recedes with the greatest reluctance. I have seen some animals - Ants, in the main, and the occasional drake. Also a vile poisonous ooze. They do not seem to mind the dark. But Oh! The people! Some terrible calumnity must have claimed their civilization in the past, and has turned all into wights and skeletons.

[several pages of inane ramblings later]

I have come upon what I believe to be the cause of all this. A vast bubbling ooze, surrounded by fumes of the vilest poison. The undead and the perpetual darkness are, I suspect, the relicts of some magickal works to remove this creature (if I may Dignify it with the name) Gone Horribly Wrong. The dragons and ants are clearly the most resilient of animals and have thus survived where others did not.

Thus, the thing I face is the Destroyer of this World. A fitting foe.

Paradox! It is a summoner! A mad battle ensues, full of wormholes, dimension steps, temporal rifts, Suddenly appearing ritches, minotaurs, war Dogs and black jellies, staffs of Channeling and Warding, a shortlived elder vampire, warshouts, Amazing Feats of Precognition, stunning Blows and piercing Arrows, and alarums diverse and reality-endangering.

Finally the beast is brought to Bay:

And banished into the Rift of Unmaking.

Aerorim is avenged.

Hmmm....so here's a question. If one were to run into an essentially unkillable farportal boss, is that pretty much game over? I've determined the Rod of Recall doesn't work and my most devastating attacks can go all the way up to 14 nature damage. Time to throw in the towel?

Dig a wall (if the walls are diggable), lure it into the spot and keep ot there until the wall collapes (I've had dug walls collapse in a different sand level). Otherwise - wow, regular luminous horrors are bad enough, this looks pretty nightmarish.

I am currently fighting
Aeragarin the dreadmaster
Looks like he can summon worms, wights and whatsnot.
Looks like he can heal.
He has blur sight and evasion,
A shielding rune
He uses darkest light so he is invisible (that means my summons will not attack).
Unkillable :/ ... hello cheat mode.

The Adventures of Grushnak the Higher, cont'd

... that I came found the entrance to the underground, away from the Searing Sun of Gunodas. What wonder awaited me there! Vast pillared halls, echoing and gloomy, built not of Noble Marble or Enduring Granite, but Ephemeral Sand!

In these corridors a Variety of unfriendly denizens lurked; however, the most terrible but one was this strange dragon, the likes of which I have never encountered nor even heard tale of before:

The tunnels of Gunodas are extensive; I had to descend deeper and deeper, constantly beset by sudden ambushes, summoned by Fiendish Traps. I was fighting off one of these attacks when a Terrible Presence loomed out of the deeper shadow, Heralded by its thundering footsteps (and by my trusty helm of telepathy).

Quickly I dispatch the undead and orcs besetting me, then I capture Poranne, for it is thus the monstrous giantess was named, in a field of Distorted Time, slowing her. While the fiend lumbers towards me, I pepper it with arrows, only to Displace myself when it is about to reach me.

At last, Poranne's spirit is broken. With a Despairing Low, the creature sinks to its knees, seemingly awaiting the Final Arrow to join its two-dozen brethren already jutting from the giant's torso. But as I prepare to shoot, I am greeting by an Amazing Sight: The huge creature enters a slow-moving backflip, apparently seeking its salvation in Tumbling and Acrobatics, as if it were some halfling!

I put it out of its misery once I stop laughing.
