Vault Spoiler

#1 Post by KiTA »

I'm currently on a lark, trying for an Ironman win. Since this is, um, hard, I'm going Vampire-Rohan Summoner, the most overpowered character type I can think of.

Obviously, dying a lot. Would make it easier if I could find a Vault spoiler someplace. I used to have one, donno where it went. Anyone know where I can find one? I'd prefer to have an idea of the OOD-ness of the vault, if it has "high quality" items, etc. I know, for example, the very little, t shape vault has stupidly high OOD monsters but also happens to have really good items in it.

Basically, the flow of my early game is:

- Bree House Quest
- Scum BD1 until I find some form of light resist
- Scum BD1 until I have detection and some form of trap removal
- ??? Profit!

Still working on step 2, to be honest. ;)

I don't have one, but I'm interested in such a spoiler as well. Vaults can be weird...

The file tome2/lib/edit/v_info.txt has the mapping information for all the possible vaults.

What you are looking for is one with lots of 8s and 9s but broken up by walls. The best are checkerboard vaults- every item on the floor is guaranteed great and every monster is separated by walls (unless they can bore or pass through them). Keyhole vaults (boss vaults) and bubble vaults are also very good.

Try the following:

Rohanknight mindcrafter (for mapping, id, detection spells).
Do Bree house quest.
Go to the wilderness mountains and find a place where you can get in. Edge scum until you get bored killing dragons (high 20s-low 30s).
Get a good digger.
Go to the Sandworm Lair. Only worms and vermin are created there, so you are unlikely to run into anything that can kill you (stay above level 30). The worst are Greater Wall Monsters and Bloodsprouts.
Look for a checkerboard vault.

This will work with any character, but a mindcrafter is probably the simplest. If you get ambitious, try it with a yeek hermit sorceror.

Brings up an interesting question -- what would you consider the beardiest character type possible? Both for Ironman (with intent of being a void delver) and without?

I would think possessor or summoner, but I'm not certain.

Beardiest = ?

If you mean the easiest to win with using minimal strategy, probably a summoner. Pick any big, strong race with lots of hp and go hide in a corner while your horde of GWoP clear the level for you.

Most certain to get a void win: a sorceror. Especially a lost soul death mold with ironman rooms- these take a while to learn how to play, but when you understand the strategy they are trivial to win with.

Any warrior worshiping Melkor becomes unstoppable at high levels. Of course this makes void diving impossible (unless you cheat a bit). This is probably the only kind of warrior that would stand a chance in the Void.

Mindcrafters also become overpowered at medium/high levels.

On the other end of the spectrum, the really hard ones to play (for me at least) are bards, geomancers, and priests.

Priests get Mindcraft. They're not overpowered because they don't get Mastery skills.

Mindcraft, BTW, really boils down "Character Armor and Adrenaline Channeling at all times" at high levels. There's not a whole lot else to it (other than the freaking Wizard Light from Precognition). You can use Pulverise occasionally, and Mindwave is of notable use in Nirnaeth Arnoedad, but most of the utility is in having +50 AC, temporary resistances, +10 speed, and superheroism whenever you want.

Re Melkor warriors, they're broken. And I intend to fix them. Thanks for reminding me. :)

Directed teleport/creating jump gates is subject to major abuse. Directed tp (like Probability Travel, but more so) can be used to shoot and blink so that you can kill anything that isn't faster than you without it ever seeing you. Jump gate creation can be used to create a "sea of jump gates" to prevent summoning.

Too bad we lost the thread about sleaziest tactics. There were some real doozies in there.

Hmm good point, the void jumpgate thing was total cheese. I might go so far as to replace it with directed rather than controlled teleportation.

(I'll post another thread about proposed Mindcraft changes I think.)
