Confessions of a save scummer / easy mode

I have, on occasion, been known to save-file cheat.

It started when I was particularly annoyed at a death, and noticed that the save data didn't actually go away until _after_ I chose "Exit to main menu". So easy to backup, restore, restart...

Anyway, it didn't worry me too much because, as the ancient scrolls say, "you're only cheating yourself". Except that now we have online profiles, which means I might one day be cheating other people.. (in the sense of displaying scores that aren't legit)

One option is obviously for DG to do something to make it harder. This seems like unnecessary effort, when he could be improving the game instead.

So maybe we could have an easy mode? Easy would be the same as normal, but if you die, you get the option of restoring to the last save.

Some people may say: "But roguelikes always have perma-death!" Which is true ... but so what? This is the first roguelike I've played with OpenGL effects. There's no particular reason why everything has to be traditional. (and heck, Nethack has Explore Mode which lets you cheat death, at the expense of not getting onto the score board at the end..)

There was an easy mode a few betas back.

Anyway I'll admit I still save scum on rare occassion, like when I hit the wrong hotkey and teleport at random instead of phase door precisly (I've since made sure to keep teleport out of my hotkeys by doubling up on other stuff but I'm still asking for a way to delete the hotkeys, or maybe... makes an idea post).

I hate to admit this, but I just started save-scumming yesterday with one purpose in mind: to unlock Sun-paladins, especially since I keep seeing posts about these Sun-paladins and whatever. I will stop once I've unlocked those.

Those hotkeys are definitely my character's leading cause of death.

That is rather funny as Yoda is almost always my picture on most forums I'm on. But actually, I won't. I'm too lazy to do it on a regular basis.

I wouldn't mind seeing a "cheat wizard death mode" like in Angband. Maybe an option for death XP loss to lose a % xp on death or even a full level.

This is already possible, you need to edit a file though manually to make it happen.
