Some assistance would be nice...
Alright so, I've just gotten the game yesterday, all I can say is right now is I'm completely overwhelmed, even with a wiki or documents on the website. For one, I'm feeling confused as to if there's any safe place for me to do the "<" command without being jumped by several monsters 8 levels above me, allowing me to live more than 10 minutes? I cannot find that beginners dungeon. Is there some beginner guide made by someone else other than the site? I really need to be walked through this step by step from the very beginning, let alone know where to start; anything I find doesn't help much.
I just feel very confused by all this, particularly by all these commands. Feels like I'm trying to learn Dwarven Fortress all over again. D:
Oh shoot, I wanted this in the TOME 3 Section, my apologies.

I moved it for you. right now the normal ToME game for T3 is very incomplete and needs work to be done, however, the first dungeon still in in the same town you start in and so you dont really need to leave it. (dont do the house quest though as that is more difficult). Look for a purple '>' in town (or around the edges of it).

Following up on this comment- you might try ToME 2.3. The latest official version is 2.3.5 (I think), although there are some unofficial updates for some platforms that include a few extra fixes. For 2.3, look for Lord Dimwit's guide and read some of the Day in the Lifes on the wiki.

Oh, I might also add that there are some modules that are more playable than the ToME module too, such as Bubblegum Crisis, DBT, and BOB.

I second the notion to play 2.3.5. It's a completed version and most of the bugs have been worked out. T3 is a WIP, and while we are currently working on plans to bring it up to speed, you have to realize that T3 isn't even out of Alpha testing yet, and is thus no where near ready to play.
And it was such a good idea...

I finally managed to stay alive until level 3, i died of my own stupidity though. And yes, I am doing 2.3.5 now, much easier to figure out; I'll check out those moduals.
Edit: The guide is nice, but I still am not sure how casting works, i go to my book and choose something like manathrust, but it's not casting, it just asks "Which spell do you want to cast?", and I'm pressing "a" (which is manathrust).

Hi
You have two (2) ways of casting spells...
Option 1
<Cast a spell> - <Choose the book> - <Choose the Spell>
So that translates as, for instance:
m , a , a
This assumes that the <Choose the book> option actually contains the spell you want, and then you pick the spell from the list. Typing * should give you the available options from the list...
Option 2
Use Macros, there is a whole lot of info in the wiki on Macros.
At this early stage I would use Option 1, and when you have some confidence think in terms of using Macros (much faster and easier).

Wow, I am utterly surprised by the community here at how friendly they are, i was half-expecting people to be more harmful than helpful, all I gotta say is thanks a ton for everyone's patience.
I will try out the said above.
Edit: All my spells are greyed out, I can't cast any of them, am I missing something?

Hmm, how would I start out then? When i try attacking with the dagger, it does poor damage and i cant handle even a level 0 with it
Re: Some assistance would be nice...
Bring up your character sheet (SHIFT + C) and then tinker around with the letters 't' and 'e'...
Look in the bottom right hand section of the sheet and you should see your <tactics> and <exploring> functions change. At the beginning you should set to Berserk and Running. This will allow you to kill most of the people in the town because of your speed. Do be careful of the Mercenary and Veteran - they can kill you very easily in one hit.
On these settings you should be able to do the House Quest in the town itself (entirely physically) - go see the mayor. This should take you to 3rd level at very least and more likely 5th. Be careful since a lot of these NPCs will kill very quickly.

Just a little note: If you're playing 2.3.5 don't expect any modules (like Theme) to work -- the module path handling is broken. You'll want a later version. See this thread for more details.

Re: Some assistance would be nice...
Alright, so I've tried to do the quest given by the mayor, but I cannot pass the thieves I come across, let alone the bandits. I've also tried just using a melee class, but I can't seem to surpass my record of level 3; I suppose either I'm absolutely terrible, or I'm doing something wrong.
Figured out to get the magic selected (Using mage now since necro isnt working), and i can get up to selecting my target, but I cannot cast on the target, tried using m, f, enter, space, but non of those are working for me.
