Should bows/crossbows/slings decrease AC? Realistically, it would be hard to defend yourself while trying to shoot a bow.
Obviously, boomerangs wouldn't count, they don't take up as much space.

Realistically, it would...
...take longer to remove a platemail breastplate than swing a sword...
...be very difficult to organize two sets of 99 potion bottles...
...make no sense that by killing things with yoru sword would have the potential to make you better at shooting arrows, sneaking, praying...
...be unrealistic to carry a 17000 pound ancient dragon around with you...
...make sense that you could pray while blinded...
...make no sense that you can survive exclusively off of pints of fien ale...
...be impractical to put 99 arrows in a quiver...
...seem reasonable that you could FLY when you possess a dragon or bird corpse...
...be totally unrealstic to expect a hobbit and an ent to both be able to pick up the same sword from the corpse of a fallen orc and weild it in battle...
...be silly for Eol, Maeglin and the Troll ARMY to nicely wait in their quest cave for you to arrive...
...be a little odd for twenty or so dragons to be hanging out in a "building" in Gondolin...
...etc.
My point is: choose your battles. Given the choice between realistic and fun, I'll choose fun just about every time.
