1.3 Temporal Warden Discussion

#1 Post by Death From Above »

A lot has been reworked or is completely new so there should probably be a thread about this.

I'm only at level 17 with one so far so nothing in depth for me. But I will point out one thing. If you use Contingency and have See The Threads as your emergency spell (which makes a lot of sense... three shots at an escape triggered automatically below X health? Yes please), Contingency using the spell does trigger the "only once per zone level" condition on See The Threads. So be aware of that.
I've killed a hell of a lot of people to get to this point, but I've only one more. The last one. The one I'm driving to right now. The only one left.

And when I arrive at my destination, I am gonna kill Bill.

Good tip, thanks.

I've been having a lot of success with a proc-focused TW. Between dual-wielding, Arrow Stitching, Blink Blade, Weapon Manifold and Warden's Call, it's not difficult to layer your target in half a dozen debuffs in one or two turns, and this works to counterbalance the TW's relative squishiness (on Nightmare, at least).

Shalore TWs work even better thanks to their numerous limited-duration instant talents. Grace of the Eternals + Haste + Time Shield, followed by Dimensional Step to trigger Out of Phase and get in position, then all extended by Timeless, is very pretty indeed. I'd like to add the two active Fate Weaving talents to that, since they're both limited-duration instants, but keep getting killed before I can unlock the category.

Shantiz the Stormblade is amazing for Temporal Warden. Once you get Warden's Call you'll ranged attack will summon melee temporal warden attacking with shantiz destroying your arrows and dealing nice AoE damage, and when you use melee attack it will summon ranged temporal warden and instantly destroy his arrow for nice AoE damage. When I was lvl 22 Shantiz AoE explosions were doing over half of my total damage, now at level 36 it's around 1/3 of total damage. Keep in mind that when you're melee temporal warden summon destroys your arrow, y?o?u? ?w?i?l?l? ?n?o?t? ?r?e?c?e?i?v?e? ?a?n?y? ?d?a?m?a?g?e? [EDIT:Nvm, you take full damage] but you'll get dazed (you won't get dazed if you use melee attack and summon ranged warden though). It gets crazy when you use Time Stop, unleash as many ranged attacks from 3-5 range at enemy as you can, and then blink closer to your target to shoot him one more time summoning melee warden detonating all those arrows.

Here's my character for anyone intrested: http://te4.org/characters/126694/tome/c ... 0b3b65e56c (insane roguelike with few addons).

Regarding alleged squishiness, does anyone else add STR for the purpose of wearing mail? I've just realized it's a holdover habit from when Strength of Purpose increased STR, meaning the only real investment needed was the one point in Armour Training. Especially with my halfling temporal wardens, though, getting STR to 48 (for voratun mail) is going to be quite the investment, so I want to be sure it's worth the candle.

You'll get physical power from it too.

I feel like cunning is a better investment, but I haven't compared them or anything. I just think having a bunch of more crit might pay off better. On the other hand, managing an inventory without any strength gets annoying fast. I am planning to do cun on my Nightmare TW, but I don't think it's a settled issue. Willpower...seems less important, because I feel like TWs are at a lower risk of causing anamolies. They don't need to crank their spellpower with Paradox and can keep the level lower, even accounting for buffs. I mean, you can get draconic will out of it, but not sure that's worth giving up a different stat.

Watch out for the Weirdling Beast. Was doing well with my warden till I encountered it at at lvl 17 he's basically a hard counter to my warden. Spam froze me causing my dogs to attack me, stops the teleport working, stopped my warp mines working, stopped my spacial tether working. My basic arrow attacks didn't have the power to out damage his self heal.

Was a piece of cake with my summoner, a death sentence with this guy ;(

I didn't have a problem with the Beast on Nightmare. Part of it is probably luck about hound targeting. Did you have Hound Blink?

Using the shoot talent will switch you to your bow. Wardens start with shoot bound to left click. Personally I prefer having shoot on an easy-to-reach key and not left-click, since I don't like misclicking or dealing with diagonal monsters.

Alright thanks for the help, guess i need to try and take a closer look at how the keybinding works, but nice to at least get that point of annoyance sorted out.

Left-click defaults to Shoot (and will auto-switch to your bow to do so). But the numpad keys default to melee Attack (and will auto-switch to your dual weapons to do so). It works pretty well if you have a full-size keyboard.
