The International Roguelike Developers Conference happens every year and gives a chance for roguelike developers and fans from around the world to meet and discuss roguelike topics, often with a strong game design focus.
This year there are two, with one in the US for the first time.
The UK IRDC is running 27-28 June at the National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham. Full details here. DarkGod has implied he'll be there :) And I'll be there too, promoting the T-Engine and giving a talk on "chunky" game design.
The US IRDC is running 30-31 May in Atlanta, Georgia. A few interesting developers will be there, including the devs of Dungeonmans and Caves of Qud.
