[svn] Axe Effect the skeleton Reaver

#1 Post by nukularpower »

This is more a qq post than a report, but it might be a bit useful nonetheless due to the somewhat buggy feel of what happened.

This Reaver was probably the easiest, most "geared" character I've played - every item he picked up seemed to have +10 damage, or +60 life, etc. He hacked his way to level 24 without losing a single life.

Then I decided to try Mark of the Spellblaze. I easily beat up the Corrupter dude and accepted his offer to attack Zigur. This went well, but somewhere in there, I accidentally AoE'd the Grand Corrupter.

Boy, was THAT a mistake. For the next 6 lives in a row, I was forced to port back to my death location (the Eidolon wouldn't let me leave, and the rod of recall wouldn't work) as the corrupter whooped the crap of me while all my shields, heals, teleports, gapclosers, and attacks failed one after the other due to "anti-magic forces." Given that Zigur was dead, why do these forces still exist? And, why do they only seem to affect the player, and not the jerk-wad Corrupter?

It might sound amusing, but it was extremely frustrating not being able to fight back at all, especially vs something I had just beaten - since none of my gapclosers would work and the corrupter would just run if I tried to approach - while losing life after life this way. I tried to just run for it, but to no avail - the Corrupter did too much damage to just tank with no way to shield or heal, and that was the end of Axey, again and again.

So RIP Axe Effect. Going to be tough to get myself to go back after that one :P

Sounds like you were wearing a bunch of items "powered by arcane-disrupting forces". Those are pretty nearly unusable for anybody who casts spells (including runes) regularly - they each give you something like a 5-10% failure chance and tank your spellpower. Possibly you put on a cleansing helm and belt to reduce the blight damage from the Corruptor?

That, or you got whacked by a dude with a disrupting weapon a few times.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.

It was because of the anti-magic aura in Zigur. Which should affect the Corrupter too. I definately never saw it happen before, and wasn't wearing any antimagic anyways. You dont go from nothing failing to everything failing every time for no reason :)
