So apparently the game just wanted to kill me....

#1 Post by Toneone »

Hey folks, i just wanted to share a quick story that really stumped me.

Well im playing a Cornac Bulwark at Lv22, my most successful run since i started playing.
No deaths so far and everything was going great.
Then i stumbled into an adventuring party on the worldmap.
Just an Alch with a golem and a melee guy.
Nothing too bad i thought.
Adventurers can be really nasty, but that seemed okay.

I took one step and suddenly i was transported to a place called "Fearscape" were everything was on fire and all around horrible, according to the lore.
I was really confused, but i had to somehow deal with it.
Looking at my surroundings and whatnot i made up my plan of action.
I popped a shield, took one step and lost the shield and most of my health immediatly.
Then i used my insta heal, recieved a truckload of damage and died.
And one of the Adventurers, was just standing in my sight range and probably laughed at me.
WAT

Yeah, early to mid-game, fearscape is pretty much death traps for bulwarks. If you're lucky, the corruptor (corrupter?) may spawn within LOS, giving you an opportunity to rush or attempt to dispel the effect. But if he's not in LOS you're pretty much just dead. You can try keeping a staff with corrupted negation on swap, or hope to find some gloves of dispersion early on, and either of those will give you a chance to cancel fearscape if you can hit him with the spell.

Best bet, though, is to avoid adventurers, the dark crypt, and the spellblaze level entirely, until you're better equipped. Better equipped in this case would mean, ideally, high fire resistance, high regen, good burst damage, and maybe the fiery choker necklace. Also, just generally prioritize taking out corruptors first.

Hmmm, your post actually gives me some insight on the situation.
I thought this was a random thing that just happend to me.
Rougelikes have some dickmoves according to my expierence.
But knowing that it is an actual skill makes it much more fearsome.

I did not realize that one of the Adv´s was a corruptor. I dont even know a thing about that class to begin with. :D
I have to admit though, the -20 fire resist from that tree shield quickend my death probably.
Well, now i got to look for some gear to help me with this in the future.

regards

Ah yeah. Guess I skipped that part...it's a corruptor talent. A wonderfully cheesy talent. If you're playing as a corruptor, you can cast that on pretty much everyone and then just run around until the other guy dies. Really sucks if you get hit with it though.

I once had a yeek bulwark I was pretty happy about get fearscaped after an accidental run-in with an adventurer party. Died quickly, resurrected with blood of life, pop a movement infusion to escape to world map. Then got fearscaped again in Dreadfell (I think)a few levels later, and thus ended that guy.
