I beat him at level 23 as a higher AM, your problem is that you have 1/5 phase door. You need 5/5 in any build imo its just so good due to the 8 turn CD vs teleports 30. Phase door > fire 3 beam spells > run out of line of sight until phase door is back up > repeat. Regen rune covers any residual damage you take while doing this and you have displacement shield, shielding runes etc incase he gets into melee range when you don't have TP or phase door up to get away.
1 point in freeze is also very nice but not as important

There should be an 'Escort' class, unlocked by a final death while carrying the Blood Of Life

Re: Where can i find more XP?
I beat the master at level 27 with a geomancer (entered Dreadfell at lv25) by abusing Arcane Eye (5) and Probability Travel (1).
Step 1 - Cast Arcane Eye on the Master.
Step 2 - Cast Earthquake and Corrosive Vapour in his area.
Step 3 - Run away and let him get damaged.
Step 4 - Repeat steps 1-3.
The only hard part about the fight was the dreadmasters constantly dispelling and confusing me.
A geomancer is quite powerful. I don't understand why people think they suck. Earthquake costs half as much as inferno and stuns. A surprisingly amount of dangerous enemies are not immune to stun/daze/freeze (including one of the final bosses). Stone Wall is the ultimate protection. And Earthen Missiles is incredibly broken if you find spell-activated gear. I think Body of Stone and Stoneskin are their only useless talents.

Re: Where can i find more XP?
I finally managed to finish the game with a skeleton archmage:http://te4.org/characters/13173/tome/36 ... e1f86a8414
I always kill the master using probability travel. All other option seem too dangerous.
I tried phase door and it is more convenient than teleport.
There is one quest i couldn't complete: The rotting stench of the dead. So i always have to wear the cloak of deception in towns and NPC's who come to help in battle are hostile.
Where can i find clues to complete this quest?

You can't complete that quest.

Isn't the quest considered complete when you escape the blighted ruins?
Re: Where can i find more XP?
BTW the master knows where you are because he has an arcane eye on you :p I got the telepathy blindness hood once before fighting him. Was fun to see his eye.
Probability travel is a sustain. Just put it on when you need to use it right then. Preferably after dumping most of your mana in combat spells so it costs you nothing. (This is how many sustains get used. they are not up all the time)
The reason for expensive spells is so that you can dump the mana from disruption shield and thus shield yourself for longer. Even just one point of disruption shield is hugely protective since it will refill your mana bar. But chain lightning is broken, it should cost 15 mana not 40.
He is not an easier fight later, he is easier early up. Many times the level of the dungeon is set when you first enter it. Clear the first level early then just leave it for later. (going in at 12 is certainly possible). Then just go do a tier 2. For mages the hardest dungeons are the sandworm queen and the maze.
As others have mentioned you are doing your ports backwards. You want 4 in phase door so you can move monsters and target where you want to end up but a single point in teleport is generally fine.
He is not a particularly hard fight, he is just perhaps the first one where you can not just stand and deliver.

It's only complete when you kill the bone giant, iirc. If you leave without killing the bone giant, you will never complete the quest, as you cannot go back. It's not that big a deal, since the reward is just the usual starter dungeon boss drops, but you will have that quest stuck in your journal for the rest of the game.PureQuestion wrote:Isn't the quest considered complete when you escape the blighted ruins?
