[b21] Maximising Archery Damage Cornac Temporal Warden >6000

I've been experimenting with how to create the maximum damage with an archery shot. My goal is to hit over 6000 HP damage in one shot.

This is how I am doing it, with my lvl 50 Cornac Temporal Warden

1. Obviously, max out stats, so I have:
Str 93
Dex 94
Con 56
Mag 122
Wil 98
Cun 35

2. However, after much experimentation and thinking about the maths,, I realised that increase in physical damage pays better dividends in the long run, so after 12 or so Limmir rings, I've settled on: one at Resist 8% and Damage 18% ( I could have got 10 and 20), and the other at stats +5, stun 60%, damage 10%

To this I add a mighty dragonbone longbow of dexterity with +33% physical, an enraging vorutan amulet with +8% physical, and a timelord's elven-silk robe of lightning resistance with 16% physical, giving me 85% physical

3. The temporal warden adds in Perfect Aim, which increases critical damage by 57%. With other equipment, my critical chance is 37%. I could get this higher probably.

So a typical shot, without criticals gives about 600 HP:

5. The real damage (and fun), however, comes with Phase Shot, which scales depending on PAradox, or Unerring Shot, which gives %321 on Paradox 627 for example. My paradox sits at a minimum of 600 (Perfect Aim 225 + Celerity 75 + Quantum Feed 75 + Displace Damage 150 + Strength of Purpose 75). Phase Shot scores at 449% of a strike. So a non-critical Phase Shot gives about 1500 HP:

6. Can I improve on this? Yes, in two ways. First, I can load up some damaging arrows. I've actually had poor luck with arrows for the whole game, so the best I have is only poisonous +37 ice +17 dragonbone arrows, power 57<. Let's try for a phase shot critical with one of these!

The problem is, the acid and poison only show up if the other damage doesn't destry the critter, and because the phase shot is doing 4000+ damage each time, I can't find anything with over 6000 HP to practice on so far. I'll keep looking!

7. The other big improvement of course is to tune Paradox upwards to increase the Phase Shot and Unerring Shot output. This is risky, buts lots of fun. So I'll keep the dragone bone arrows, as they increase my base damage slightly, and tune up paradox to 9900! This gives PHase Shot 644% damage and Unerring Shot 447%, but failure chance at 21%, anomoly 37%, and backfire 27%. Wow!, This will be dangerous.

Let's go hunting! I"ve found a measly fire imp to creep up on around a corner. Got 5073 HP, still not 6000, but my paradox has jumped to 1006.

Here are some hits on my way to the elusive 6000:

Dolleg - one shot at 3910. Paradox now 1025. Cast Deja Vu t take it to 1069
Orc Pyromancer 5735 Paradox now 1102. PHase shot sitting on 700% Unerring on 486%

(by the way, PAradox at 1100 gives a wormhole for 16 turns!)

I am getting too many wierd effects from aonomolies, so I'll leave it back at 600 and see if I can get lucky with a particular monster.

SO here are figures for PAradox 600:
Orc Fighter, Unerring shot: 4963 HP damage
Uruivellas, Phase Shot: 4151 HP damage
Greater multi-hued dragon, Phase, 1921 HP !

Moved to High Peak, level 13
Xaren, Unerring shot, 4615 hp damage

I think I need something vulnerable to temporal damage to crack 6000, or better gear. So I've changed my Limmir rings to give me less stats and more damage. Now I'm at 95% damage. I think this will just get me there. Problem is, I"ve cleared High PEak 13 and am running out of critters to shoot at!

Looks like I'll have to settle for 5992 HP as my biggest hit. I'll post again if I crack 6000. On to level 15 of High Peaks!

Clearly, despite having a lower percentage, Unerring Flight hits for more damage than PHase Shot.

I'm going off shopping now, to see if I can crack 7000 HP!

Yeah, this is so wrong :(

I think paradox scaling needs to go to diminishing returns. So 1k Paradox is double damage and 300 is base with 0 being half (or there about).

I'll see if I can come up with a better formula.

You're right edge, but it's lots of fun. I've just cracked 7000. It depends on what you hit I think. Orcs and sandworms seem the best targets.

Same gear, still at Eruan, jus hit a ritch larva for 7855. Is 8000 possible?

haha.. I'm sure it's fun Jenx but it certainly isn't balanced.

The temporal archery tree is getting removed, though not because of this thread ;) Folding is going to be more general so archer builds can get more out of it.

My main concern with the paradox scaling is that paradox mages will be unlockable next beta and almost every talent they have scales off paradox in one form or another. So hopefully DG will find my new formula before b22 is released.

My goal is over 4000 (sneak flurry atack). My character is 46 lvl skeleton rogue and who knows what will be later :)

Nice, PizzaPL. It's great to see a fellow rogue aiming for insane damage :D . But why aim for 4000+ damage only with flurry, though? It's so unsatisfying when enemies die on the second or third (of six) flurry hits, and you never get to know how much damage flurry could do with all six hits. It's most enjoyable to do 4000+ damage with a single attack with both your main-hand and off-hand weapons. I speak from experience as the only rogue winner so far (I hope you become the second!):

A small disclaimer, though: To achieve 491 off-hand weapon damage, Th'vee had "Dual Weapon Training" at effective mastery of 9. It is now capped at 8. So, removing the amulet of mastery (+0.2) would result in effective mastery of 8, which allows a more fair comparison with newer betas. So, if I shuffle a little bit of my equipment, Th'vee can have 277 main-hand damage, 382 offhand damage, +84% physical damage (which isn't included in the weapon damage numbers), and a shadowstrike multiplier of 2.57 (and with really high stealth mastery, I was basically always stealthed). It's too bad Th'vee isn't carrying any offensive armours at the moment :wink: . I don't know for sure how much damage this would do in a single, normal attack, but rest assured, it's a lot. Th'vee was routinely doing 4000+ damage with some talents even before doing the High Peak. I wonder if there are any enemies left with high HP for me to "play" with... 8)
