[1.7.4] ToME kills my system audio

#1 Post by ratbuddy »

When I run the game, since the latest nVidia drivers, all my system audio stops working. I can get it back by going into settings and changing bitrate (for example from 16/48 to 24/48 or whatever) but the game is still silent. My setup is Windows 11 running an nVidia GPU -> HDMI to Integra (AKA Onkyro/Pioneer) AV receiver -> LG C1 TV.

The Windows sound settings do show the little output bar bouncing around, so I think the game is generating audio, it's just not being output to the default device properly. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this? I really need my ToME sound back :)

Before running ToME, the box in the lower right is the 'info' button on my AVR, it shows what the input audio/video formats are:

When I run the game, something makes Windows barf and stop sending PCM. I dunno if it's something in the TE4 sound initialization or what, but it looks that way...

I found this post about an openal issue ( https://code.nephatrine.net/nephatrine/ ... ignore-all )where Windows is blowing up and remaking the sound device when you change resolutions. I'm running the game in fullscreen so it technically is doing this, so I set the game to windowed and ran it - sound works. Running in windowed mode isn't a great option, but at least it gives a hint what might be broken.
