Instill Fear, loosing invested points

My daughter was playing an adventurer with fears tree. Two items which gave instill fear, one whoch boosted the tree, talent point invested. She said at two characters so far she went from 5/5 down to 3/5 or even 1/5 while clearing dungeons. Sadly she noticed it only when having finished a dungeon. I told her to play without any addon a class which has fears to exclude some possibilities. But since the bugs were not allways there we don't know what triggers them. It is somehow frustrating to notice it at a level 50 char with no chance to re-invest.
