Only the ingredient defines range of crafted steamguns: using iron, even a T5 sling will become a range-6 steamgun — and thankfully so. But crafting, and only crafting, ignores ego modifiers: bought or found, an iron steamgun of the ranger/true flight has range-7; if crafted, the exact same weapon will have range-6 instead, which doesn’t make much sense and doesn’t add much (if any) balance to the game.
In fact, truth be told, if the crafting mechanic is kept as is, countless players, converting +range slings into steamguns only to discover that the resulting weapons are in no way different than the plain initial ones, will most likely feel cheated, realize that they have been fed a lie all along and drop out of school/college/work to pursue a life of crime and iniquity. Or maybe they will swear in the chat.
Proposed behavior: The range of crafted steamguns should be based on both tier/material and ego modifiers (if any).
