Help! My Saves keep not working.

Well.. I had ToME running for about 8 hours today (was playing when ever things slowed down at work, which was pretty often with today being a holiday) .. and I did not crash once. No idea why it was so nice to me today, but here we are, and I'm not complaining. I left the online part disabled. So.... maybe my anti-virus was the cause?

I'll try that Controlled Folder Access deal this weekend maybe... I'd rather play the game with all the features on... but if it's not possible (for me) ... I'll take what I can get and just play it offline.
I'm like level 34ish now.. Made it past the tower and into the east. I had a really good time reading up on lore I hadn't seen today lmao. Been a while since I'd seen anything new.

I already tried to get a refund from steam. They shot me down.... repeatedly which just made me want to make this game work that much more. Apparently if you've got more than 2 hours played it's a no go. (I was at about 38 and 50hrs when I tried). I'm at 100hrs even now lol...

I can't say it enough. Thank you for all the help you've tossed my way. I'm REALLY enjoying the game when it's not taking a pooh on me.

Makes no sense.... Today the game's crashed within minutes of starting it up and I just bricked a save. I haven't changed anything from yesterday.


Uploaded the latest backup save I had, was leaving the graveyard... crash happened when entering Last Hope. My world map is black. The Graveyard wasn't there and it looks like dungeons were moved around... I didn't get to explore much.. A giant worm or something ate me... Will see if I can still make it to the East or not after/if I get out of this monster.

Man I really like this game, ate by a wormthing.. lol

This suggests that the zone-wilderness.teaz file wasn't saved properly - look for a .tmp file with a similar name (possibly with a .teag rather than .teaz extension) and, if present, just remove the .tmp extension. Don't change the teaz/teag (this indicates if the file is compressed or not). If no .tmp file exists, try using a previous save made by Aphar (compare filesizes to identify a "successful" wilderness savefile).

This file contains key plot flags so a previously failed save can have serious implications later on in the game (like missing plot-critical NPCs).

Uh oh... Just saw your message now... I've been struggling with crashing all day... I was level 36 this morning. And I'm level 37 now. If looks like all of my back up saves for wilderness are from today. I'm struggling to make my way back to the east I wonder if this is the reason why... I did find the portal zone.. and was trying to access the coordinates that the Assassin Lord sent me.. I got it to open but.. it didn't give me an option to "change level" when I stood on it. Not sure what I did wrong.

So far it just looks like my wilderness was rearranged... all the zones still say if they were visited or not (At least the ones displaying).

This is the point where you may like to consider upping the number of backups Aphar keeps. However I may have been a bit alarmist - on further recollection, plot flags are mostly stored within the appropriate zone file. Losing the wilderness file will cause things to regenerate (with many locations moving) but the biggest effect is that different "optional" locations may appear (those triggered by level and class/race).

You mean the Occult Egress, right? That isn't where the portal back East is - the note from the Assassin Lord is a code to make the Font of Sacrifice appear. To return to the East you can use the same portal as you did previously, but there is a quest in Last Hope you can follow to create another one.

Yes I was referring to the Occult Egress. Thanks for that, I saw the Font of Sacrifice and assumed I had just not noticed it when I entered the room.. so thought my portal was broken. haha.


I seem to be missing Reknor on my world map. . . *Sigh* Is this game bricked?
I originally cleared it, but apparently I need to go back for the quest to create the portal.

That's probably due to losing the zone-wilderness.teaz file - check for any .tmp versions of it (and check your Aphar backups as well, it will probably have caught any .tmp files too) and try removing the .tmp extension and loading with that.

Note that there is a quest to follow in Last Hope that involves creating a new portal - if you can complete this, then you can do without Reknor.
