So, I corrupted the heart of the sandworm and received the corrupted one but the original didn't go away so now I have two. I used them both and received the bonuses for each, including Harmony and Vile Life.
Clearly a bug, yes?

This happens once in a great while. I had it happen once quite a while ago, but then never again since.
I'd call it a feature rather than a bug.
