more AAD shenanigen

#1 Post by helminthauge »

case 1: you're a paradox mage who has learned AAD
then, you can have 4 AAD at the same time (redux, AAD, AAD, temporal repreive, redux, AAD, AAD)
after that, cast Rethread on one of them (with Braid LIfelines) and maybe more beams before they disappear. You'll notice that they can actually take braid damage.
Finally, unleash that Echoes from the Past :D
I can easily get 100k+ arcane damage on the dummy surrounded by the AADs.

case 2: you're a wyrmic who has learned AAD and picked up Acera (or just an adventurer who know both Static Field and Corrosive Worm)
you just summon and AAD, cast Corrossive Worm on it, and then use Static Field, and wait for the AAD's dissappearing.
AAD has 1 mil max hp, and lv 6.5 Static Field is about 36%, and the Corrosive Worm from Acera is 60%.
That's 216k damage. And that's even using your acid damage bonus and penetration.

I think to fix these shenanigens it's better just to make AAD totally invulnerable and set its max hp to 10. This will also fix the problem that AAD can be frozen, dazed, stunned etc. and thus far less effective, or sometimes far more effective under -resist effects, though that strategy may actually be encouraged.

And what's the point?
You still can take Garkul's Revenge and like, still get those 100 K of damage from it.
I don't know if AAD can proc from the damage from AAD, if yes it's even more.
You could go Drem Necromancer for example and potentially hav 3 AAD from it (doubt AI can pull this trick off) and like, have these numbers.

I think it's good that game has such things - for those who want fiddle with it, why not.
English isn't my native language.

You just don't understand the power level of these 2 shenanigans.

Yes, that Garkul's Revenge can get you a 16* damage from AAD, but that requires 2 prodigies, and you still need some good initial damage. While these 2s are way easier to get.

The second case is pretty obvious: Just pick up a wyrmic. Don't go Antimagic. Get Static FIeld to lv5 (very little investment). Survive to level 25 and pulled Acera from the item vault. Can you tell me another way to get a lv25 character who can deal 250k+ AOE damage in 3 turns? with item vault permission. Plus AAD usually suffers from no damage penetration in endgame, while this usage of AAD has no such problem.

The first case is more complex. It's not that powerful at lv25 when you pick up AAD (ok, it is still very powerful. I managed to deal 4k+ to the training dummy surrounded by 3 AADs with the following lv25 cornac paradox mage

He has nothing but a white T2 staff as equipments and 0% spell critical chance), but when you level up and gear up, it becomes really fearsome. On a test with an end-game PM who has ~130 character sheet sp, 100% temporal damage bonus and 450% critical multiplier (and always crits), just a Rethread and then an Echo from the Past can deal about 500k damage. PLUS he doesn't has Garkul's Revenge. With that thing I think 10mil is possible, enough to one-shot the final bosses even in the theoretical difficulty above madness.

And there're already some AAD shenanigens fixed, like direct Static Field or Touch of Death. The core mechanic of these shenanigens (including the two here) involves exploiting the high max HP of the AAD instead of the damage amplification itself, while Garkul's Revenge has nothing to do with this.

And of course AAD can't proc AAD. Otherwise anyone with 2 AADs can produce at least 3.2mil arcane damage with however low initial spell damage, and a bunch of classes can have 2 or more AADs up.
