Characters savefiles being overwritten without confirmation

I am running ToME (1.5.5) bought from Steam on Arch Linux.

I had a mid-level character overwritten without confirmation by creating a new character with the same name. The bug is reproducible, I can create a new character, play a bit, then create a character of the same name and it will go though overwriting the previous character without asking.

Let me know if more info is required.
