[1.4.9] Killed in town by Darkest Light :-(

#1 Post by jenx »

I enter Angowlen, and die immediately - a mage cast Darkest Light the moment I appeared, wiping me out.

This is frustrating.

Can town folk please not have Darkest Light. They don't need it!

i think the problem is that they tried at all, rather than it actually managed to deal enough damage.

THEY DON'T NEED IT!!! why would they activate a draining spell, without an enemy?!

unless someone forget their cape of deception... but i know that they don't care! they just auto activate EVERYTHING upon spawning.

I've seen a lot of insane instant damage from Darkest Light against patrols in the Embers campaign as well. Emergency Steam Purge case all over again :/

Also, your shadows may attack neutral monsters making them hostile towards you. This can happen at least when the monster is drowning. Remember, that you aren't necessarily even trying to drown anything, towns people can run into the water on their own too because of DL.

Having to turn off a sustain every time you first enter a town is dumb AF.

Current difficulty : Insane

There's currently a civil war in Angolwen and I've only just entered the place at level 10 (aka, it's not even my fault this time!). One of the mages started a plague which I caught and promptly killed me. Not to be stopped by such pettiness, I asked the Eidolon to send me back so that I could [s]loot the dead[/s]assist the wounded and Linaniil who just joined the festivities it seems promptly nuked everyone for 550 light damage with Darkest Light.

Forensic analysis : some NPC (a dead ogre shadowblade eyewitness that was walking around says it was Linaniil) spawned with Darkest Light which like all good NPCs she promptly had it turned on. She also probably happens to spawn with full energy which means Darkest Light instantly exploded and probably hurt, maim or even kill some apprentice mage that was basking in her dazzling light. Which probably prompted the start of the civil war. And when a town full or Insane random boss mages goes to war, they start throwing AoE spells left and right and on my face.

Suggestion : can we make the Anorithil spells not hurt allies anymore? It's so much of a pain with escorts and walking in town with autocast. Alternatively, can we stop giving Darkest Light to town NPCs? Or even stop giving that talent altogether to any NPCs since it is dumb and they are probably too stupid to use it correctly with the way it works so all it does it make them have no Positive Energy at all and randomly explode for massive damage.

LOL - thanks DG, but then I just got killed by Thermal Balance :-(

Fro some bizarre reason, Tarelion is running around everywhere in Angowlen and his talents are damaging everyone. And then he died, and dropped the Blood of Life. Linael is also running around. Must be the mushrooms lol

Can this also be removed from talent pool?

Well do you have some info that NPCs will use Thermal Balance without any reason, thus starting a civil war or worse, killing the player? Because I don't think we should turn off all talents like that but only the conflict starters.

The AI has issues.

I'm guessing if an NPC rolled both Forcefield and Thermal Balance, they would activate Forcefield due to it being a sustain, run low on Psi and activate Thermal Balance to fix that. And completely ignore that they are not in combat and this will hurt friendlies nearby.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

That scenario is plausible, but in that case he was already running around which means he was triggered, which means it was just his combat routine going on. Basically, there's not much evidence going on that Thermal Balance started the issue in the first place. We can't go around disabling all talents suspected of causing town damage like that or else the rare talent pool might become slightly restricted :D
