One With Shadows Tree: Blindness and Curing Stun

#1 Post by omni »

Shadow Senses is the 1st talent. I quote: "You always know where your shadows are, and can perceive any foe within [scaling] tiles."

You lose sight of your shadows when you are blinded. This becomes more notable when complicated with the next issue.

Shadow Transposition, the third talent: "You can target a shadow in radius [scaling], and instantly trade places with it. [Scaling] random negative physical or magical effects are transferred to the shadow in the process."

1.) This has a usage speed, so it's not an instant effect. I'm not sure that's intended, but the language is a bit ambiguous- I think it's intending to say you change places before the enemy gets a chance to strike, and the skill header specifies that it -does- in fact take a turn. Perhaps adjust the language?

2.) It does not, in fact, work versus frozen, which is terrible. <false>I suspect it doesn't work versus stun either.</false> These are physical effects and ought be curable.

3.) Curing blind with this is incredibly, incredibly annoying since if you're blinded you have to repeatedly click where you -think- the shadow is to transfer the blindness over to it. The skill won't execute unless you correctly guess where the shadow is, so you will eventually cure it, but it'd sure be handy if you could see the shadows via shadow senses at a minimum.

Opinion: This tree is generally considered weak, but it does contain just about the only utility available to doomed, and shadow decoy is perhaps nice enough to make it a sort of "uh, maybe?" choice. I'd advise shadow senses should (absolutely) grant permanent sight of your shadows, and perhaps the enemies made visible by your shadows -override- blindness. This would be interesting, and a nice power boost and intro into the tree.

I'd also say shadow transposition should be made truly instant usage, with perhaps an adjustment to it's range scaling, cooldown, and/or number of statuses cured. I'd personally choose to keep it's 10 turn cooldown, bring it's range from [4 scaling to 15], and have it transpose [1 scaling to 3] effects. This would encourage players to use it tactically sometimes, or save it as a status cure. It's already highly limiting in that you may only transpose with a shadow, and if you use it as a cure you may likely kill or wholly disable a shadow from whatever status you force upon it.

Alternatively, a scaling cooldown that goes quite low (12 to 5 turns?) with 1, maybe maybe maybe 2 transposed effects would make it a very tactically combat used skill that offers some hardiness.

Either way, the double dipping hate costs in a single turn will likely discourage abhorrent auto usage all the time, encouraging intelligent play.

I believe any of these changes would definitely befit the "cool" power factor implied by advanced talent trees, and perhaps boost Doomed's abilities into a deservedly more powerful state compared to other classes.

Why do you suspect stun isn't curable?

The only reason it doesn't work with frozen is because frozen limits your targeting choices. There's no way it shouldn't work with stun.

I'm confirming it cures stun now, thanks to Housepet's skepticism. Edited main post to reflect.
