Crash since I bought through steam

I used to play the original game a lot. Recently I bought the game and the two expansions through steam. The game has started crashing quite often (every couple hundred turns). No error screen pops up (it just says TOME is not responding). When this first happened I deleted the old game files and redownloaded through steam as well. The error still occurred.

I tried attaching the te4_log file, but the file size was too large. Also, I could not find an lua error in that file (ctrl+F returned no such string). I am running windows 10 if that makes a difference. I believe that is the only thing that has changed since the last time I was playing the game (other than purchasing the game through steam).

Can you still run the non-steam version downloaded off the website without issues? That would help narrow down the problem.
