[T.E 1.4.5] Tinkers get no energy when transmogrifying

As the title says, playing a tinker in the original campaign, unlocked Sher'tul, did all the regular dialogue - however transmogrifying objects yields no energy.

This is because you are using the APE, which extracts materials as well as gold, instead of the Transmogrification Chest, which gives energy and gold.

The transmogrification chest only gives the energy at a certain point of the game - and the player has no option to switch between which of the two they're using.

I believe that this is not working as intended.

It is working as intended. When you have no items in the chest you can use the one you want to be working and get an option to choose it. So if you wanted to get energy rather than crafting materials for awhile you would use the transmog chest and then confirm when it pops up.
