1.4.2: villagers attack ghoul despite cloak of deception

My newly minted Ghoul, wearing his cloak of deception and no other special gear, is being attacked by Derth Villagers.

That means no Arena quest, no Alchemy quest and no shopping.

I thought the Cloak of Deception prevented this?

Why does this happen?

it turns out taking off the Cloak of Deception and re-wearing it solves the problem. After Derth, I noticed this in another town as well, even if I never took of the Cloak in between - so there is some way in which my player looses the 'friendly undead' flag.

Make sure the "Cloak of Deception" effect does not get removed somehow while you are wearing the cloak (item).

If this does happen, please report the circumstances.

Several people have reported so far that the effect frequently and unexpectedly vanishes. I haven't yet had enough info to track down why.

I can confirm: the Eidolon Plane turns off the Cloak of Deception effect even though the item is still equipped.
