Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
"I am Linaniil of the Kar'Krul. Welcome to our city, Necromancer. What may I do for thee?"

Huh, apparently either the PC can get away with anything, or the author of the "How to Be a Necromancer" in-game lore exaggerated a bit.

obviously, he is a follower of zigur. have you read the necromancer's poem?
well, while its weired, its not a bug. just... oversight.
she is probably believing that its a "nice" necromancer. not one of those "i will rule the world!".

Not all necromancers are evil. Jeez, why do you have to discriminate much?

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
I think there have got to be at least a line or two of additional dialogue pertaining to this.
Radon26, you are making little sense.

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
the author of "how to beat a necromancer" is obviously a follower of zigur.Bahndriin wrote:Radon26, you are making little sense.
the necromancer poem (or whatever it was called) says that the undead supposedly like it, while everyone else think of them as mindless slaves.
the Linaniil's text (and everyone else who mention your name race or class) is automatic, and not expecting a class to be "evil".
there is simply no code to send a different message "if", so its not rally a bug.
Linaniil is an optimist and think everyone is good at heart, atleast untill they do something stupid like bringing the storm on an innocent city.
when speaking of necromancers, there is that stereotype that all necromancers just want to build an army of undead and use them to conquer the world.
does it make more sense now?
Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
Assuming the poem is by the same author of the How to be a Necromancer series could be a mistake.
I'm fairly certain Linaniil would bat an eyelid and incinerate any necromancer or corruptor she met, but that would mean that those classes would have no way of solving Storming the City.

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
noone assumed that. but reading your comments i noticed a mistake i made.HousePet wrote:Assuming the poem is by the same author of the How to be a Necromancer series could be a mistake.
the first mentined comment has how to BE a ncromancer, while i read it as beat
when i was writting my post, i was thinking about how one (i think dwarven) adventurer was talking about different undead, how to deal with ghoul rot without wild infusion, and evventually getting to how nature dies whenever a lich (however you spell it) is born.
as for the poem, the part i remember the most was "...they'r eyes do gleam..." and "...their greatest dream...".
i hope that clears all... assumptions.
Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
Yeah, it's like say "not all Nazis were evil".Micbran wrote:Not all necromancers are evil. Jeez, why do you have to discriminate much?

No. Because or it's not "stereotype", or stereotype has no negative connotation how suggested in your words.Radon26 wrote:when speaking of necromancers, there is that stereotype that all necromancers just want to build an army of undead and use them to conquer the world.

Stereotyping - is important and useful mechanism in the human psyche, which allows treating large arrays of information, and it is due to evolutionary, and then extremely useful.
So it doesn't make any sense at all.
Then such way should be added for them, that's all.HousePet wrote:Assuming the poem is by the same author of the How to be a Necromancer series could be a mistake.

English isn't my native language.
Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
Player Character, as suggested by "character creation", can have a good agenda even if they are a reaver.
That said, would it be hard for a corruptor or a necromancer to conceal their art? Turn off necrotic aura etc.

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
hear "necromancer" - think "army of undead to conquer the word"
And that is not a stereotype...
Apparently i don't know what a stereotype is.
still, even if we ignore the one word, what's wrong with the rest of it?
"So it doesn't make any sense at all."
...
"...at all."

I love forums. People get so bent out of shape sometimes over tiny opinions. As someone once said on the forums elsewhere, invest in some thick skin.
Anyways, considering the PC later goes onto save the world from destruction and (I don't think) there isn't an option to destroy the world once you kill the two mages, it's safe to assume that not all necromancers are evil. To an extent.
And I kinda agree with Radon. Darkness, raising undead, making yourself undead, collecting souls. Uh... That sounds pretty damn evil. And likely to conquer the world.

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
at least you could hope he would do that like the one from Heroes 4.
for those who don't know, his method of creating an army was:
instead of slaughtering towns, he let them live to generate more corpses, since they would die eventually anyway.
and instead of rising them all, he would let them sleep until they are needed.
he was also limiting his territory so that "world doesn't unite against him like it always does" when they see him as potential danger.

Re: Linaniil doesn't bat an eyelid at Necromancers
Thanks Radon26, this exchange makes more sense now. However, the way I see it, author of the Dust to Dust lore doesn't show any particular, above background level hatred of magic, he just doesn't like undead. (Wild infusions are pretty common way to heal and do not require you to be anti-magic.)
Linaniil attacks you if are undead and take your cloak of Deception off, even after you are done saving the world and she knows about it, so I don't imagine that the "friend to all (un-)livining things" trope is current state of affairs here.
