Legit characters get "may have been played offline"

Before I switched to the Steam version, I never had a character get the "May have been played offline" note. Since I have switched, most of my characters have gotten it, and although I know it does not matter, it is annoying.

It's not even the same reason every time, and it's not because my Internet connection goes down.

Once I was told "Steam Client not found" and once it was "Switching to off-line profile due to unknown error." (I'm paraphrasing) And there seems nothing to be done - it's just a minor annoyance, because every time I look at my characters, I get told that I 'may' have cheated.

Does the bloody line have to be there?!
