Launcher won't update

Been away for a while, last version I installed was 1.0.0. Was excited to see the "launcher" concept as this was the reason I stopped updating was the ever increasing download size and new versions popping up all the time. (Just too much bandwidth)
So I download the launcher, drop it in my 1.0.0 folder and it pops ups with "There are 10 patches" on the top bar & "Error: Server returned nothing (no headers, no data)" on the second. The "Patch" button is lit green, but clicking it does nothing.

So is there a way around this, or do I have to download 300 megs to get the new version?

EDIT:
I noticed the launcher's log contained links to the individual update patches, which I can download manually. I tried getting the 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 patch and placing it in both download and patches respectively, but the launcher doesn't seem aware of it's presence, and it doesn't look like the patches can be manually extracted. Is there a way to make the launcher aware of manually downloaded patches?

you are probably using proxy, check its configuration - as for manual download of patches launcher still needs to connect and get response headers to compare patch sizes - at this point it cant - probably your proxy limits simultanous connections but thats only my guess

ALso, do you have the nomusic version by any chances?

Nope no proxy, direct connect through a 3g modem. no firewall. This version has music.

It's definitely talking to the servers, because I get update available messages in game, my profile pulled my unlocks (took a few tries but it got them, this is a new install on this machine) and the log shows it retrieving the list of available patches in the launcher.

it looks like something is denying launcher to download a patchfile, it can be some overreactive antivirus, maybe windows defender, note there is also posibility that your router has built in antivirus,

Don't have a router, just a usb 3g modem. Don't run anti-virus or any of the goofy windows "helpful" security features.

try in windows - start - run - "cmd" and type "ipconfig /flushdns" retry the launcher

hmmm it would be nice if you had some way to root out that its your ISP, like go to your friend and check it on his internets

I can't imagine it's my ISP, they never block anything else. Possible i suppose, just seems unlikely.

I'll probably end up downloading the whole archive for the current version next time I get a laptop near a WiFi spot. I'm just hoping this won't be an issue in future once I do.

It's really weird that it can communicate with the servers enough to know how many and which patches it needs but it can't retrieve header or data info. Wouldn't those be on the same server?

well ISP is the next logical step to look into,

your bug is the only known case in launcher
you say windows is clean of anything that could interfere with launcher

also that error occurs after downloading a patch list - it wont download anything unless you click 'patch' pass this point, also you would be surprised what some ISP do, like injecting ads into downloaded pages ; )

I'll try it on another connection when I get a chance.
I can't click the patch button. It downloads the list, puts the error in the update bar and the button is green around the edges but unresponsive.
