Bug when comparing gloves as brawler

There appears to be a bug with comparing glove damage as a brawler. This has been in the game for a very long time now, as far as I can remember, and I can't tell if it's a bug or some kind of feature I don't understand.

When you compare gloves, sometimes the damage numbers are way off. Here's an example:



And now we compare the gloves with less damage:



Why would it say that the leather gloves have +5.0 top end damage over the iron gauntlets when that is clearly not the case?
