[RC1] Counterstrike effect as a result of shooting

#1 Post by greycat »

The "Block" talent can apparently be used to reduce the damage of incoming arrows, and that's fine... but then the shooter seems to get the "Counterstrike" effect, even though he's several tiles away.

I'm not sure if that's the intended result or not. It doesn't seem right to me, especially if Block/Counterstrike is supposed to replace the free "Riposte" attacks that Bulwarks used to get.

It also applies to spells and such.

This is deliberate; counterstrike is also meant to benefit slingers, IIRC

Nah, that's different. That was so the damage bonus applied to ranged attacks.

Maybe counterstrike should only apply if the target is adjacent? Making someone off balance because you blocked their spell cast or arrow doesn't make much sense if the attacker is far away but I can see it if they're near enough that you could bounce the arrow back towards them or have some of the spell kinda reflect. If that makes any sense.

The counterstrike effect could be that the way in which you disrupted their attack left them tactically off balance.

But it probably is a bad idea to have counterstrike trigger cross-tier effects, unless the target is adjacent to you. But even melee types can take advantage of a ranged counterstrike with certain talents, such as rush.
