While i had no internet i managed to clear the game almost twice and noticed some really annoying things that only seem to happen while you have no internet connection.
I dont even know what exactly caused my internet to die so i cant say for certain if the following things happen to everyone then or not.
First i noticed that whenever i killed something that would drop an artifact, randart or rare item the game would lag. (as in total standstill for 1-2 secs) I think it was the same for achievements and finding lore. This doesnt seem like much but its really tiring and disrupting in the long run.
The 2nd thing was the first time it happened kind of funny but the 2nd time not anymore. When i entered the fortress and used the library the counter would increase veeeeery slooooowly from 1% to 100-102% and then award me all the lore i found. It didnt hang any more than usual and really did go through every single number.
The number of crashes also increased although im not sure if there was any reason to them since i didnt get stuck and crash all the time at the same place.
Im sure ive forgotten some bugs.
Also im sure just searching through the talent texts for "inflicing" will find at least 5 typos.
Oh and this is not a bug - more of an idea but i cant use custom tiles while offline /=
Would be nice if we could use them all the time after using them once, though this only affects players who have no internet for a long time since you can just create a character with a custom tile and play them on something with no internet access just fine.

Re: [b42] Offline Oddities
Do you have the game set to on-line profile active? On my old computer it would lag if my internet suddenly dropped out but only if my on-line profile was active, otherwise it rang about the same speed on-line or off.
Re: [b42] Offline Oddities
Im still not sure what exactly fried my internet but i know that i couldnt access the internet at all for those weeks.
So it never suddenly stopped working /=
It usually logs me in when i start it up.

Re: [b42] Offline Oddities
Which means it will at regular intervals try & connect up through an internet connection that's not there. This probably causes the lag. Selecting log off on the start-up menu stops it from looking for the server, I presume.Vanir wrote: It usually logs me in when i start it up.
Re: [b42] Offline Oddities
It doesn't seem like simply checking to see if ToME can reach the servers should create an inordinate amount of lag, unless it is spamming the socket, in which case there's a bug that needs to be squashed. :s
Re: [b42] Offline Oddities
That depends on the nature of the connection problem. If it sends packets but doesn't get an immediate error response then it'll wait for the connection attempt to time out. Then it'll resend a few times assuming the packet got dropped somewhere along the way, followed each time by more thumb-twiddling.
