I've been kinda amused by this harmless bug for a while, but I suppose I ought to report it.
Return from the East and talk to Tannen, and refuse to turn over the orb to him the first time. Get the Athame/Diamond and return to him. Agree to turn over the orb the second time(and then go to Telmur). This will actually not turn over the orb to him, and then when you fight him later, he will drop another one.
