Weapons of torment

#1 Post by ghostbuster »

Using a weapon of torment (or the Truth, etc), can reduce an effect on a foe.
If the effect (stun or other) is applied, it will last for 3 turns. Even if the foe is already stunned for 7 or 8 turns, in which case, it will replace the previous effect!!!

Increaing the duration would probably lead to too powerful stunlocks, but it is a nonsense that such a weapon *reduce* the effect duration.

Using dual strike right after you hit someone with dirty fighting has the same effect. In other words all effects work like this.

Maybe the timed effect application function in actor could check durations when a new effect is applied and if the actor already has that effect, use the higher of the two durations.

Actually, the situation is not exactly similar.

If I decide, to use dual strike right after dirty fighting, it is my choice. And if it reduces the previous effect, it was probably a silly decision with regard to the game mechanism but I have to assume it.

Torment is supposed to be a greater ego that will help the player. And the problem is that in some situations, it will randomly debuff effects applied by the player. For instance for a berzerker that with stunning blow maxed can permanently stun an opponent, a torment ego or the Truth is worse than a normal weapon, that is rather odd IMO.

Anyway, the suggestion to always apply the higher duration in general seems coherent.
