[b35]Stange melee effects with equipped a bow

#1 Post by finn »

I am playing a Temporal Warden, and have the starting bow equipped. When I melee something, very strange but awesome results happen. I always deal an extra 9 arcane damage. Sometimes I will cast a random attack spell I don't have. I casted mana thrust a bunch, as well as elemental bolt.

Switching to melee weapons removes this strange effect. See attached character dump.

EDIT:

The effect also takes place if I am bare handed.

That is an effect of the gloves you are wearing. Gloves have had added combat stats for a while now, though they are only visible to brawlers.

LukeP, just curious, how *do* gloves affect non-brawlers?

And would the effects be obvious through a mouse-over of said gloves?

As far as I can tell, gloves affect non-brawlers in the same way that they affect brawlers, but without the increased damage that brawlers get. As for mouseovers, I don't think that they ever show the melee information to non-brawlers.

Glove and Shield combat stats are hidden to classes which have no use for them. Gloves have some interesting enough on-hit effects that I could see a clever player using them effectively.
Sorry about all the parentheses (sometimes I like to clarify things).

Heh... unarmed ABs and TWs are actually kinda' interesting, and even somewhat viable. A TW can definitely smack someone in the face if they don't want to swap from their bow, and the low attack speed on gloves synergizes very well with arcane combat. Any class that tacks on plenty of on-hit via a talent (Rend, the AB hands, weapon folding, weapons of light, so forth) can dish out a decent amount of damage unarmed.

The more that I learn about this game...

Kind of makes me want to run an unarmed non-brawler with on-hit just to see how it does.

Made an unarmed skele AB, arcane combat+firey hands along with some gloves got me through the starter dungeon, color me impressed.

Can glove effects show when any class is unarmed? That would be helpful.

As a fairly new player (love the game btw!), I would like to request this as well. Before seeing this thread I was very puzzled by the fact that my dwarf bulwark was hitting things barehanded almost as hard as with a weapon (thanks to a whole lot of elemental damage of various types), while also often inflicting slow, freeze and stone touch.
