[b34] Engine sometimes plays no sound

#1 Post by Grey »

This has been happening for a little while now, and with no rhyme or reason to it. About 50% of the time when I start up the T-Engine it does not play any sound. No fiddling with settings changes anything, going into modules doesn't change anything. Only thing that fixes it is exiting the whole engine and restarting (and it can sometimes take a few attempts). Nothing in the log file is different between the two situations.

Should I run in that gdb thingummy?

Are you launching it from the taskbar in windows 7? If so, running it from the taskbar bugs the sound, instead launch it from a shortcut on the desktop.

Feck, thanks for the tip! Any chance of this being solved?

In B31 it was reported in this thread: http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=27751

Here's a quote of the solution:
comatoseDreamer wrote:A shortcut placed on the desktop (right clicking the executable > send to > Desktop (create shortcut)) Works fine. It starts with sound and music always...so...

Something about starting TOME from Windows 7 (probably count Vista in this also) taskbar is causing weird behavior... for me at least. No one else on the forum seems to have the problem.

I have no issue with playing without sound and music. I'm used to the silent ASCII games ;-) It's just one of those Nice Things I like to have from time to time.

If an IRC session might help, I would do it. I am beginning to think it's just me unless you guys who have already responded to my posts are running Windows 7 and find no issue starting TOME from the taskbar.
