Using summon control, summons can't swap with summoner.

#1 Post by Aquillion »

When I use summon control on my summons, I'm unable to swap with the summoner, while the AI-controlled summoner is capable of swapping with me.

I assume that this is the result of a 'summons can't swap with summoner' rule intended to avoid the annoyance of having the AI swap you around -- but, obviously, in this case, it has the opposite effect. This is compounded by the fact that the summoner AI inexplicably wants to get to close range with every enemy it encounters, even though I taught it shoot and gave it a sling -- so it will do things like swap with the minotaur I placed between it and the enemy in order to stand adjacent to that enemy itself!

Obviously, this is undesirable. Whoever the player currently controls should be able to swap with allies and shouldn't be swappable.

While you control a Summon you can give orders to your Summoner: change the behaviour to 'ranged' or some such.

If 'swapping' is a power of hte Summoner -why would the Summoned creature be able to use it?

I don't know what you mean. It's not a 'power' at all, as I see it -- PCs can always swap with friendly things, without exception. It's not a special power, it's the way the game works. All friendly things can swap with each other, though your allies aren't allowed to swap with you on account of how annoying it would be.

Unless you're possessing a summon. This clearly looks to me like a bug.

EDIT: To clarify, when I say 'swap', I don't mean via a talent -- I mean just walking into a friendly thing via a directional key and changing places with it. That's not a power, that's part of the basic interface.

Are you sure that you aren't swapping with the summoner, then being swapped back immediately?

Very sure. Just tested it. When I try to swap places with the summoner, no time passes, and nothing happens -- it's like walking into a wall.

I believe that the power to swap places is tied to the elite status of the player. The alchemist's golem also is elite and can swap places with creatures. Summoners' summons are all normal creatures, so they can't swap places with friendlies.

Is this a good thing? I dunno. If nothing else would be screwed over by making all summons elite creatures, then that might be the way to go. But I don't know what all else the elite status entails.
