(pre-b29) armor "(with hardiness)" ???

#1 Post by tiger_eye »

I'd like to point out that i find the armor "(with hardiness)" field in the character screen utterly confusion. I know that this is "[armor] * [%hardiness]", but I have no clue whatsoever why this number is important.

Now, I could understand a field that is "[armor] / [%hardiness]", along with the desctiption that incoming damage above this will be reduced by "armor" amount, and incoming damage below this will be reduced by "%hardiness" amount.

b29? Has that been released somewhere? Or is this from SVN?

Yeah, that "(with hardiness)" line is complete nonsense. This is probably responsible for quite a bit of the confusion over the new hardiness mechanic. Ideally, I'd like to see a single line for displaying armor. Suppose a hardiness of X% and an armor value of Y. Display this:

"Armor absorption: X% (max Y)"

The tooltip should read, "Absorbs X% of incoming physical damage, up to a maximum of Y damage absorbed."

This accurately reflects the intended mechanics, and explains it more concisely and clearly. Also, note that I did away with the word "hardiness". It's not really appropriate, since it implies durability innate to a creature, not the effectiveness of its worn armor.
