B28 Wandering Adventure Party
In B27 the Wandering Adventurer Parties were Powerful but not overpowering, in B28 the Adventurers are much tougher to beat It think they are no too overpowered.
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
Adventure party casters can be very dangerous at low levels, especially in multiples. The other adventure party classes aren't that bad though.
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I personally think the difficulty is kinda random and dependent on the group makeup. My b27 fighter died to them once (and crashed after resurrecting), but my b28 brawler was able to beat the group he got in part due to some clever pillardancing involving the slinger and mage adventurers.
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
In b27 they where under powered. The talent masteries where being set to the fractions the birth files use to modify 1 without modifying 1.
In plain english if the character was generated and meant to have two talent levels in a talent that the base class has a 1.3 mastery in it was getting a .6 effective talent level (it was only getting the 0.3 and not the 1 in the 1.3 mastery, .3 * 2 = .6).
Now I'm not saying they don't need some tweaks and balancing (because I honestly don't know, still wrapping up a b27 character). But if they're tougher then wanted or if people have ideas on a balance that would be fitting it belongs in ideas or development. There's no bug here just a bug that got fixed.
Also Far Portal stuff was having the same issue. So if you've noticed a big jump in far portal boss difficulty it's also due to this bug getting fixed.

Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I really enjoy the adventurer parties in b27. If they were much harder, my underpowered character would have real difficulty with them. Given that they are (generally) avoidable, this is probably OK, but I hate to see more of the game that new players, and people who are not playing superbuff race/class combos, and people who've been unlucky with pops, simply have to avoid.

Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
The player is an adventurer. The hostile party is a group of adventurers (which should become more clear when they get an image tile). Such bravado the player must have to think he or she can take on several comparable enemies to him/herself by him/herself!
I agree with evouga that the most difficult adventure parties are when they have multiple casters and the player is low level. The difficulty also depends which class the player is, of course. I've taken out a dozen or more adventure parties between character level 20-30, and I think the difficulty is perfect in that range. Some parties are still pretty easy. Some parties are still relatively challenging, but not unfairly so. Plus, they have great loot, so I'm sure I'll ambush more in the future!
Side thought: why do encounters always ambush me? Why can't I ambush them? If I move into their tile on the world map, shouldn't I be able to choose where to place my character in the ambush map (perhaps depending on direction of ambush)?

Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I vote for a change in the behavior of the adventurer parties; we know that adventurers are notorious for wanting loot. After all that is one of the reasons we (the player) are willing to be ambushed by the adventurer's, to get THEIR loot. What if at the beginning of the ambush a dialog pops up, and the adventurers demand either X gold or Y random (non-quest) item from the player's inventory. If you refuse then you fight, and if you lose you are left bloodied (like another fight in the game) and without that gold/item. Actually the penalty for fighting and losing should probably be increased, say two items and twice as much gold. Some basic ideas, any thoughts on them?
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I don't like the idea of being left bloodied - death or glory, I say! Otherwise the bribe will seem meaningless. Should be a high amount of gold - say 25% of what you've got. Items becomes a bit trickier, since there are several key ones that must be protected. To keep things easy maybe they only demand gems?
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I've now died twice to adventure parties: once at low level (teens) against a pair of casters I couldn't do much against, except dash for the exit to the world map (didn't make it.)
I recently died again in the mid-20s against a caster who hit me ~200 damage, broke out of my ice block in one turn, then sent me to the Fearscape where the fire damage finished me off. With more care I could have survived, but nevertheless the threat level of the Shalore is way higher than the other adventurer boss classes. Maybe decrease their health to make them squishier?

Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
I like the idea for gold, such as paying 25% of your gold will make them go away without a fight, but if you fight and lose, then you lose 50% of your gold. Maybe they could take an alchy ingredient, too.yufra wrote:the adventurers demand either X gold or Y random (non-quest) item from the player's inventory
I wouldn't want to include inventory items. Don't want to encourage junk item hoarding in hopes that the adventure party will ask for a piece of just (roguelike players are notoriously prolific at taking advantage of things like that).
Yeah, I had a cursed (meleed) character die in a similar fashion at clvl 12 (http://te4.org/characters/4192/tome/fd6 ... 1cc000edf0).evouga wrote:died [...] at low level (teens) against a pair of casters I couldn't do much against
The Fearscape is a place to fear. An adventure party hasn't sent me there in b28, so I don't know what it's like, but my gut feeling is that the damage done by the floors could stand to be reduced.evouga wrote:then sent me to the Fearscape where the fire damage finished me off
Re: B28 Wandering Adventure Party
But that would impact on the Corruptor's coolest spell. I say just take it off adventurers - it's a bit of an extreme one for them to have.tiger_eye wrote:The Fearscape is a place to fear.
