Kor-pul mini map (others too)

#1 Post by Canderel »

In the attached screenshot, the minimap is almost indecipherable.

Looking at the minimap I have no idea where I am, and where the opponents may be (I tracked on this screen shot, and there are several mages etc. in the vacinity).

I have seen this quite often also. Another symptom of it is that you can see oddly shaped words and letters in the message window at the top of the screen.

Exiting the game and restarting fixes it for me.

Same and by exiting the game I mean exiting the engine. It also seems like when I first boot up the engine if I do nothing else I can avoid the bug (at least until I hit the world map, then it crops up). If I'm changing to other windows, checking my email, or talking on IRC while the game loads I tend to get the map bug (but it could just be my imagination and it might just be random).

You can still see the feature colours if you look closely, but three quarters of each square is filled with the background beige.

It's still doing it in svn 2852.

Didn't had this problem in b18/b19/b20 but encountered this problem in b21 when starting my 1st character with it tonight.

As suggested in this thread, quitting completely Tome4 and relaunching it then loading the save fixed this.

I have also noticed that the problem seems to crop up if you try to do something else while TOME is loading or loading a new zone. If I just let it run until it is fully loaded the problem does not seem to be there.

- leaving a game with a normal minimap to the main menu sometimes produces a blank screen in place of the left panel
- quitting the game in this state crashes tome4
- loading another char in this state produces the garbled minimap
- running tome4 again after experiencing this state also produces the garbled minimap
- exiting tome4 with garbled minimap cancels the effect

This is clearly related to the background image (main menu). After downloaded and installing b23, the background was white instead of normal and I got the garbled minimap. I disabled the background and the problem disappeared forever.

I've had the background disabled for many many betas now. Still have the minimap issue.

Reasonably sure this has happened to me more than once, but the only time I remember clearly was the one time I was insane enough to go into the kryl-feijan crypt with a melee character during b21. Happened on the last level soon as it loaded. Save/exit and reload fixed the problem though.

Edit: I had the background enabled then. After watching the AI of the "player" spaz out and get stuck between trees too many times (and since it was using the old font) I disabled it. Not sure if it cropped up again after that. Will need to test.

There's only one way I know to make this bug happen reliably. Er, well, this is only based on two data points, so this isn't a high confidence level, but it may be helpful nonetheless. Here it is:

Enter the world map and begin auto-save in the background. Quickly find a creature on the world map and enter an ambush. Leave the ambush (preferebly after killing all the animals  ) and return to the world map before the original auto-save is completed. Both times I've done this resulted in the buggy mini-map.

btw, I'm running on 64 bit linux (Ubuntu) and I compiled T4 myself. Also, I have all graphical effects turned on.

In an effort to see if various things cut down on crashes, I disabled background saving for 5-6 levels of my TW's existence. In b23, this has the effect of making the "dotty" minimap show up MUCH more often. Also had blue-green junk at the top of the screen when messages happened, almost looked like the confuse status effect had shown its ugly head on it. Re-enabling background saves cleared the issue up, though.

For me, every game that last more than a couple dungeons will have this problem. 100% reliable that it picks it up. *usually* when entering the world map (the world map is also buggy)...
