b19 Windows 7 - Game perplexed by resurrection refusal

#1 Post by TheRani »

Sometimes when my Normal (Adventure) character dies, even if it has some lives left, I decide Not to resurrect, and opt instead to exit to the main menu. When I do this, it often gives me the intro screen without the main menu, and with a mouse cursor that does not move. Escape key does nothing. The music is still playing, but I can click nothing and do nothing. When I try Alt-Tab out of it so as to kill it in Task Manager, my mouse still doesn't work. I end up having to use keyboard commands to just restart the computer. I had this problem in b18, too. Does the game get confused about what to do with my character when I choose not to resurrect them or something?

Maybe it's not that, after all. I just had the same thing happen to me after a Roguelike/Hardcore character died. You know how the main menu has a sort of animation thing where it starts out tiny and then grows to normal size? When it has this problem, it stays tiny.

Okay, I just tried changing the video settings to the fastest and least demanding ones, and it seems to have improved matters. Maybe it was just too fancy for my machine (AMD Phenom X4 9740 quad-core processor, 8 gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD 4650 with 1gb video RAM).

It's a known problem. Try disabling the special mouse cursor and play with the system one. This greatly improves game speed too.
