lost merchant quest bugged?

Hiya.. I've been away since beta5, so maybe I missed a change..

When I entered the lost merchant's quest with my lev4 dunadan berserker, all baddies were inactive until I walked up to the merchant and did a stunning blow job on the assasin lord. After this, all baddies proceeded to gang up on the poor merchant, who ofcourse was slaughtered before my char could even kill 1 baddie.

Ofcourse, the merchant's death has been avenged.
But that does not get me the quest completion :(

So, is this a bug, or is the baddies' inactivity a newly introduced feature since beta5, to give melee characters a better shot at beating the level? (in other words, should I have entered the quest at a much higher char level to stand a chance to beat it?)

they have always been inactive, just that in beta5 they were bugged in that some classes made them hostile.

A Sun Paladin dropping in on the master assassin automatically made everyone hostile... I figured that was a feature! (Not sure if that still happens in beta 13.)

On a sidenote: an alarm-trap (spawning some baddies) makes them "attack" you (talk to you). The Assasin Lord talks to you as well, once he reaches you, which ofc makes them hostile...

Sorry to bump an old topic, but beta 21 still has this 'feature' :!: .
Sun paladin entered second level of Merchant quest, walked past the first 'p', and they all turned hostile, including the Assassin Lord and the Merchant himself. When all rogues were dispatched, I pressed '5' to recover health, and the Merchant attacked me. Stepped onto the stairs, exited to World Map, and got the achievement for rescueing the Merchant from the Assassin Lord.
