major saving bug

#1 Post by teachu2die »

playing a dunadan arcane blade right now. i completed the tempest quest, then quit the game before restarting my computer, thought i saved correctly, but apparently not - i wound up back at tempest peak 1 when i opened the game again. so i went through the quest again, saved again afterwards, played for a bit, then quit the game (saving and exiting). i just opened the game again to find myself back at tempest peak for the third time.....

What is your log saying when you save ?

On linux it's in your terminal, on windows it's in a file called stdout.txt

oh and a weird bug regarding tempest peak (not sure if its reported elsewhere):
when you go to the second floor and then go back up to the first, it places you in the middle of the rocks in the center of tempest peak 1, suffocating.

cool, figured that bug had been spotted.

meanwhile, a combination of laziness, hastiness, and misfortune led my arcane blade to a shocking death at the hands of the tempest mage, this third time around :( i almost contemplated save-scumming, since i had beaten him twice before successfully, it almost seemed like not cheating...

Hi Darkgod,

I think I am getting the same issue, although not Tempest. Ive just finished Carn Dum, teleport out on my mage, then saved. When I came back I was at top level or Carn Dum again. Thought it was a one off, so I left once again, did the Trapped! Quest, and saved and exited and the same thing happened I was back up the top of Carn Dum. Done a few things differently but no matter what happens I appear back at the top of Carn Dum :( Please Help.

Thanks

Let me know if there is anything you need, I have the stdout.txt file but not certain what you might need from it considering just how long the text file is.

edit: Not only that, I was gutted because the Ring of Elemental Fury was in the Jewellers, which I managed to buy and the Staff of Destruction which I just got to drool at. :D

edit2: Right just managed to get to floor 4 by running through the dungeon instead of teleportalling out, and it is letting me save ok now, the second I teleportal out though doesn't save again puts me back in Carn Dum, also the game slows right down the second I teleport so guessing there is some kind of issue with it :( Which is a shame considering this was the first time I actually used the ability.

Ok So i think I know kinda what is going on, just finished the mage quest to be allowed into Angolwen. Whenever I use the spell it just disallows me to actually save. If I cast the spell I end up in Angolwen, but when I click save, it just comes up saying saving but never actually does.

Also if I then click Save and Exit it doesn't save just exits immediately, getting rather frustrating as I cant do the thunderstorm follow on until I have done it. Please help ^^

Btw legendary version of TomE Really getting into it, just unlocked Cursed ones so might give them a shot while waiting for a reply :D *Grins*

This is a known, major bug in beta 13. If you use the rod of recall or the Teleport to Angolwen spell, you will see "Recalling" on the left pane, and then some time later, you'll be yanked out.

If there is a dialog up at the time you are yanked out, such as "Resting, press Enter to stop" or "Running, press Enter to stop", it breaks the game's autosave, and screws you over.

The workaround for this is, whenever you use recall or Angolwen, DO NOT run or rest. Press single movement keys (or '5' to stand still) repeatedly until you are yanked away. I like to walk back and forth so that I can see immediately when I've been yanked (the key press won't move me, as the game begins the autosave and level generation process, which takes a moment or three).
