b13 few bugs, tooltips traps & crashes

#1 Post by raithe »

found a few bugs so far in b13.

tooltips for anything without extended info (eg floor, & wall tiles) the last, looks like two letters are cut off.

rogues walking their own traps gives a message about failing to disarm the trap, haven't had a rogue live long enough yet to get trap disarm skill so I can't say for sure whether it's actually trying or would succeed. Doesn't set the trap off (that's a GOOD thing).

Game crashed when trying to create a new character with the same name as one of my 12b characters. Incompatible profile data I guess? My 12b saves don't show up in the list to load anyway. I tried creating a new character with that name and it asked me re-create or new, chose new, C.T.D.

Ah yes I noticed the tooltip thing just after the release :/

As for the crash yes very probably (linked to quickbirth I presume)
I think I can prevent it though.

Deleted everything before running b13, forgot about unlocks - what a dumbass :lol:

(Can't remember how archmage got unlocked - oh go on, spoil me)

* Can only get it to run as Administrator - else the windowframe draws and then it crashes [vista]

* An archer being born with the special ammo of reduced batch size feels lucky at first but is quite likely condemned to death. Mine had 11 arrows (and didn't even realise the forage talent needed to be turned on until just two left, yep a dumbass) - after that, was bashing worms on the head with the bow hoping that would trigger it, but then a troll came along - they have much harder heads.

* Surviving the green place is going to mean hoarding the best arrows possible while in the West, maybe even need to scum for them - because no more getting busy at the entrance to Chateau Sunmaidens. On the one hand it's unlikely anyone will expect it, so they're autodead the first time - on the other hand if you do expect it, your character is making irrationally careful preparations. Hey I'm only saying ... :)

@DG
Yep I think it is quickbirth related as my friend just downloaded the game it crashed when she tried the quickbirth option after dying. (whole new character and name, not a rename from12b like mine.)

I'll try to get her to do it but I can't promise anything, she lives in Hawaii and I'm in Texas. I've yet to have a problem since the first crash, but I also just deleted tome's home folder containing the 12b data and let it create a new one. I can run 12b and make some saves then run 13 again to see if I can replicate it locally, but this box is a lot different from hers.

It's not the most elegant solution, but it might be a good practice to have betas create their own home folder per version (eg /home/tome_b13/). Especially one you get a stable release out. Save files usually aren't compatible between versions on roguelikes anyway, and you've already implemented the profile system online for unlocks and achievements (great idea btw). It would at least guarantee a clean testing environment.

True, well starting from this version savefiles are branded with the version that created them and will load with them anyway so it should not pause problems anymore
