As usual, the Zombie Lord froze+stunned me to death, but this time I had used the BoL. When I came back, the GML was gone, but a ice storm was still in progress, so I teleported away. I could not find him (it?), so I figured that I had to come back to fight it again. When I did, I instead found a glittering sword by itself elsewhere in the level. I didn't bother searching the ENTIRE level, but I tried sense a bunch and didn't see the GML. Is there a unique-killed list? Is this the power of the BoL?

Clearly the mummy lord managed to kill himself somehow -- most likely on a trap while walking toward you.

If you received credit for the kill the information would be recorded and accessible by the Lua console:
This is a table indexed by the name of each creature and the value is the number of kills for each name. If however a trap did manage to kill the unique off you have no way of knowing. I haven't experimented with the BoL, but maybe others have noticed: does using the BoL place you EXACTLY as before you died or has the game progressed say 1 turn? For some reason I remember seeing NPCs move once between the player dying and then resureccting, and if so this may explain what happened. Something could have killed the unique and you would not have seen it because you were no longer on the map (log messages check to see if you are within LOS). Was the unique low on life?

I'd bet money it was. Since there's no quest status message or the like when it dies, I wouldn't have been able to tell when it died if it was out of my LoS.
Actually, I could have been on top of it when I resurrected... I've been on monsters before... and after I teleported, it could have found a trap and died somewhere.
I died at level 26 yesterday (cave spider is crazy now), so it's a bit moot now.
