Stealth affecting quest triggers

One time fighting the Red and Blue mages in mount doom I approached while stealthed and they didn't recognize me until I attacked. When I attacked both mages remained, but were invulnerable. On rogues I have to remove stealth for the quest to complete correctly. I also entered Ithilthum stealthed and nothing happened even when i unstealthed.
