Landscape features

#1 Post by Repton »

This is kinda half a bug, half an idea.. I'm not sure how much you care about getting landscape features named right.

Anyway, I was looking around the landscape. Some things:
  • Mt Doom is surrounded by the Misty Mountains.
  • The Old Forest has also colonised Mordor.
  • Lake Nurnen is called the Great Sea.
  • Nen Hithoel (in the Anduin) is likewise called the Great Sea.
  • Ditto the Long Lake.
  • The river that joins Anduin, to its west, is the Entwash.
  • You could also name Fangorn Forest nearby.
  • And the "deep forest" is Greenwood the Great.
  • The Ephel Duath only form the west and south borders of Mordor; to the north, it's the Ered Lithui.

I care :)
I'll change it.

BTW, I hereby call on people to draw me a map of the Far East, with good names and such like in the east, that does NOT suck like the current one I made ;)

IIRC ToME 2 "Theme" module's world map was pretty coherent with the "real" Middle Earth map, it could be a good source of inspiration.

and why not make it so that if there are multiple far east maps that the game chooses a random one :D

and since this is a landscape feature bug thread....

someone really needs to remind the sun paladin lady that her palm trees in the gates of morning are really old and out of date(s) (well, I did say they were palm, not date trees) :P

I've got a copy of The Atlas of Middle Earth at home ... I'll have a look at it and see if it has any useful material.

Although ... remember that the world is a sphere, as of the end of the Second Age (when Iluvatar bent the seas)..

These are the best maps I could find:
First age
Second age

Both drawn by Karen Wynn Fonstad in the Atlas of Middle Earth.
