Lua seems correct... so I would think of an integer overflow here.

Hummmm very very weird, ther eis no int, just floats and it's kinda hard to get high enough with life to overflow those .. mhhhh

Just a wild guess:
AFAIK the monsters use/wear the items they're generated with (at least some)? Propably he was wearing a certain ring that reduces hp/turn down till 0hp...

He dropped a ring of invisibility... so you're right, he was probably using it and got his hps reduced to zero (it was 0% of his life so the guess seems correct).
